Let’s “Spring Clean” Your Oral Health

As winter loosens its grip and signs of spring emerge, many people start to think about spring cleaning their home, but what about spring cleaning your dental health routine? It’s a great time of year to refresh your oral care regime so you can greet the new season with a healthy and beautiful smile. We’ve listed a few easy tips below to get you started.

1. Replace Your Toothbrush
You need to replace your toothbrush or electric toothbrush head approximately every three months or as soon as the bristles start to look worn. It’s also a good idea to replace your toothbrush if you have recently been ill. Also, make sure you never share your toothbrush with anyone else. After using it, rinse it thoroughly with tap water and stand it upright so it can add dry quickly. A damp toothbrush can easily harbour bacteria. If you are prone to getting infections or colds, think about investing in a UV sanitiser that can help extend the lifespan of your toothbrush.

2. Spring Clean Your Flossing Routine
Do you floss thoroughly every day or only when you have something trapped between your teeth? If you find it tough to floss daily, you might need to try a different floss. Waxed floss is a good choice; to make it more interesting, purchase a different flavour. Otherwise, if you have tightly packed teeth try using dental tape that can slide between teeth more easily. Another choice is to use a floss or dental pick as these look like tiny Christmas tree-shaped toothbrushes and can fit between teeth more easily. There are a great option if you want to floss on the go or find it tricky using traditional floss.

3. Schedule Your Spring Dental Check-up and Clean
Make sure your next dental check-up is scheduled, especially if your family needs appointments to fit in with school or work. Regular dental checkups are the easiest way to ensure your teeth and gums are in great shape and to pick up any signs of dental problems that much earlier when they are simpler, quicker, and cheaper to treat. Don’t forget to schedule your dental cleaning at the same time as a visit to our hygienist will ensure your smile looks its best.
