Have You Been Naughty or Nice To Your Teeth – Caring for Your Oral Health during the Silly Season
Hopefully, you have been nice to your teeth, but it is easy to let all your hard work fall by the wayside during the silly season. Over-indulgence in festive treats and alcoholic drinks, combined with late nights can play havoc with oral health, so read our easy tips on caring for your smile.
Be mindful When Drinking Bubbly
A glass of bubbly is very festive but sipping on fizzy acidic wine can be disastrous for teeth, damaging tooth enamel. Consider diluting your drink with ice or a splash of soda water or drink it through a straw to reduce contact with your teeth.
Don’t Graze the Day Away
Some days it can seem easier to exist on snacks, but when you graze on food, it increases the time your teeth are exposed to harmful acids. If you can, try to stick to eating fewer, larger meals instead.
Finish Meals with Sugar-free Gum
After eating, chew a piece of sugar-free gum as this stimulates saliva flow, neutralising harmful acids more quickly and washing away loose food particles.
Alternatively, opt for cheese to finish a meal as chewing cheese also stimulates saliva production, and it contains calcium that helps to harden tooth enamel.
